1. Hexagonal Pottery Tile, Turkey circa 1525-1530 A.D.
This hexagonal tile is painted in shades of cobalt blue and turquoise on a white background, with a symmetrical floral and split palmettes design radiating from from a central floral composition. Very similar tiles were used in the Topkapi Sarayi Sunnet Odasi (circa. 1527-28). Around that time Iznik adopted turquoise in its palette. Measures approx. 7-1/4" in diameter.

2. Iznik Tile, ca. late 16th early 17th century
This tile features classic Iznik pattern Ulama Tek Karo. Probably part of a larger mural. Measures approx. 8-1/2" square. The artists from Tabriz brought the techniques for making tiles to the Ottoman empire. The tiles feature deep colors, especially red, blue and green and motifs that are often organic. According to Goodwin (A History of Ottoman Architecture), Iznik tiles with floral patterns, a favorite being the tulip, were used to symbolize the paradise garden, a common motif in Islamic art.

3. Small Medieval Persian Bowl, ca. 12th/13th century
Green monochrome glazed bowl with floral design under the glaze on the inside of the bowl. Dark green stain inside the bowl, probably hardened excessive glaze. Measures approx. 2-3/8" x 5-1/2" in diameter. Three green protectors are attached to the bottom.

Simple form small bowl with turquoise monochrome glaze through out with the remainders of gilt luster - typical Persian design. Bottom has three green protectors. Overall measures approx. 2-3/4" 4-1/4" in diameter.

This plate features classic Hispano-Moresque design in copper lustre and is framed in a black wood frame. Outside of the bowl is painted as well, and has a small footed base. Measures approx. 11-1/2" in diameter; framed overall approx. 17" x 17".

Boat shaped with circular base ring with a circle/dot relief within. Flat handle at angle against body with raised rim around filler and with holes. Relief line pattern on top and sides, cross symbol between filler and wick holes. Apprx 3-1/8"L x 2-1/4"W.

10. Palestine, Megiddo, Stratum III, Iron Age IIC, ca. 8th century B.C.
Baked clay with bowl to hold fuel, which was usually olive oil, and a spout to support a wick, which was probably made of flax. The shape of this lamp, changed over time, going from an open bowl with four pinched spouts to the one-spouted type to a closed lamp with a single spout. Apprx 2"T x 4-7/8"D.
