78. Mary Spain (American, b. 1934)
"Woman, Dog and Moon". Oil on canvas, framed. Striking painting is split horizontally into two color fields: pink and red. An abstract woman with a white body and black hair seems to hover near the center of the canvas. At her feet is a black dog and beneath him is a small crescent moon. A blue dot floats above the female figure. Upon close inspection, one can notice light inscribed lines possibly shapes of an angel and a dog, as though there is an under painting. Signed on lower left. Spain was know for her playful and quirky paintings. This is most likely from early in her career. She lived in Ohio. Measures apprx 40"H x 32"W.
