Pastel on paper of domestic interior scene, typical of the Egmond School, ca. 1885. Not matted or framed, image is appx 19-1/2" x 12-1/2", signed lower right.
His work is in the pemanent collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum as well as the Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah Georgia. He was appointed the first American to receive the Officer's Cross of the Order of Franz Joseph of Austria, the first American member of the Vienna Academy and in 1909 he was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design, New York. His work is in the current exhibition at Cleveland Museum of Art, "The Gilded Age."
